We are pleased to announce versions 7.1.0 and 7.1.1 of PDFTron's iOS SDK .
In these releases we've added support for multiple saved signatures, a freehand highlighter tool, viewer-optimized PDFs, a new option to search document for selected text, and more.
This release adds the ability to save multiple signatures / initials for re-use. Included is the ability to capture a "one-time" signature, where the signature is applied but not saved for re-use, as would be required when asking a customer for their signature.
A freehand highlighter is now available. This tool acts like an ink annotation, but as with text highlights, it is "multiply blended" with the underlying PDF. What this means is that unlike standard alpha blending, if a yellow highlight is applied on top of back text, the black text continues to look perfectly black.
This tool has many potential uses, including highlighting text in scanned PDFs.
We are pleased to introduce viewer-optimized PDFs. These PDFs are specially constructed for lightning fast viewing on any device, no matter the complexity of the page content, the size of the PDF, or if it's stored locally or remotely. In the worst case scenario—a large, complex, remotely-stored PDF—you can expect to see the first page within ~3 seconds.
We have a guide showing how to create a viewer-optimized PDF - use the language switcher to see how this is done in other languages, as many deployments will want to create the optimized PDFs on a server.
On the viewer side, displaying a viewer-optimized PDF requires no extra work - it's all handled automatically, as viewer-optimized PDFs use 100% standard PDF constructs.
Please get in touch if you have any questions.
A simple usability improvement, it is now possible to search for highlighted text. Just select a work (or phrase), and choose "search" from the popup menu.
These last few weeks we have heard from many customers asking for specific functionality to be implemented or improved. (See our changelogs 7.1.0 and 7.1.1 for a complete listing.) These additions indeed help everyone, and if there is a missing feature or API that would be useful for your app, we'd love to hear from you.
Lastly, we would like to recognize that this is a difficult time for many, with covid19 impacting our personal lives and how we work. We offer our heartfelt best wishes to you, your family, and your friends & colleagues.
