PageMaster
User Manual
PageMaster can split PDF documents and extract pages according
to the following criteria:
'Split by Pages' option allows extraction of individual pages,
page ranges and page sets. Use the 'Options' edit box to list the
pages to extract. For example:
| Pages |
Description |
| |
Leaving Pages field blank will
split the document into single pages. |
| 3 |
Extract page number 3 into a new
document. |
| 1, 2, 7 |
Extract pages 1, 2, and 7 into
three separate files. |
| 1-10 |
Create a single output file containing
pages 1 through 10. |
| 10-1 |
Create a single output file containing
pages 1 through 10 but listed in reverse order. |
| 4- |
Extract the page range from page
4 to the last page. |
| e |
Extract all even pages. |
| o |
Extract all odd pages. |
| 4-e |
Extract all even pages in the page
range from 4 to the last page. |
| -10d |
Extract all odd pages in the page
range 1-10. |
| x2 |
Split the document into a list
of documents each containing two pages. |
| x3 |
Split the document into a list
of documents each containing three pages. |
| dx4 |
Extract all odd pages into a list
of documents each containing four pages. |
The atomic operation given in the above table can be stringed together
using a comma operator ',' in order to produce more complex actions.
For example:
| Pages |
Description |
| 1-3,4-6,7- |
Split the document into three page
ranges (1 to 3, 4 to 6 and from page 7 to the last page).
Three new PDF documents will be created containing corresponding
ranges. |
| 1-10,5-20 |
Create two files each containing
corresponding ranges. Note that the same input page may be
repeatedly included in different page ranges. |
| 1,2-20e,21-d |
Split a document into three documents.
The first PDF will contain the front page, the second will
consist of all even pages in the range 2 to 20, and the third
file will contain all odd pages in the range from page 21
to the last page. |
Splitting a document by bookmarks will generate a set of output
documents where each generated file represents a page range between
two subsequent bookmarks.
Since bookmarks may nest, PageMaster allows document splitting
based on bookmark level. 'Split by Bookmarks' can be fine-tuned
by adjusting the bookmark level. For example, to split a book by
chapters (e.g. level 2 bookmarks) you just need to limit the bookmark
level to 2-3. This will prevent extraction of sections, sub-chapters
etc.
PDF PageMaster supports splitting documents based on the file
size of generated documents. For example, in order to split a document
into 1Mb chunks, enter 1000 in the 'Output File Size' field and
click 'Run'. This operation will generate one or more documents
each containing one or more pages where the physical size of document
is less than or equal to 1MB except if a single page is larger than
1MB.
PDF PageMaster supports document merging through its 'Merge
Files' tab.
The tab contains a list of files to merge along with optional parameters
specifying the pages to merge.
In order to add a new source document to the merge list, click
on 'Add'. When the source document is selected, you may specify
the optional parameter list in the 'Pages' column. For example:
| Pages |
Description |
| |
Leaving Pages field blank will
include all pages into the resulting document. |
| 3 |
Extract page number 3 into the
resulting document. |
| 1,2,7 |
Extract pages 1, 2, and 7 into
the resulting document. |
| 1-10 |
Include page range (1 through 10)
into the resulting document. |
| 10-1 |
Include page range (1 through 10)
specified in reverse order in the resulting document. |
| 4- |
Extract the page range from page
4 to the last page into the resulting document. |
| e |
Extract all even pages. |
| o |
Extract all odd pages. |
| 4-e |
Extract all even pages in the page
range from 4 to the last page. |
| -10d |
Extract all odd pages in the page
range 1-10. |
Although one of the most common operations is to combine several
documents, the 'Merge' tab can also be used to rearrange pages within
a document. For example, to rearrange the pages within a document
so that all even pages are followed by odd pages specify 'e, o'
as a document Pages parameter. Similarly, pages can be reversed
or rearranged in many different ways.
PDF PageMaster offers full support for standard PDF encryption
algorithms and custom security through extensions. If the input
document is protected and requires a password, you will be prompted
to enter authorization information.
PageMaster also offers a convenient mechanism to automatically
apply or remove security on all generated documents. In order to
configure the output security manager, click on 'Security'.
You can choose between the following options:
- 'Do not change' - This option keeps the same security information
that was present in the source document.
- 'No Security' - This option generates output documents without
any security even if source documents were encrypted.
- '40 bit' - This option applies standard 40 bit encryption, introduced
in PDF 1.3, to every generated document. You may specify a user
password (a password required to open a document), an owner password
(a password required to modify security settings), and permissions.
- '128 bit' - This option applies standard 128 bit encryption
introduced in PDF 1.4 to every generated document. You may specify
a user password (a password required to open a document), an owner
password (a password required to modify security settings), and
permissions.
You can limit access to PDF documents by giving the files passwords
and restricting certain features such as printing and editing. A
document can have a user password and a master password (also known
as the owner password). If a file has both passwords, it can be
opened with either one. When a file is opened with the user password,
the security restrictions are temporarily disabled. If you set any
security restrictions on a file, you should also specify a master
password (also known as the owner password); otherwise, anyone who
opens the file could remove the restrictions. You can select between
40-bit and 128-bit RC4. Depending on selected security level, you
can select different permission sets. Permissions associated with
40-bit security handler are the subset of 128-bit security handler
and will be grayed out.
PDF PageMaster allows you to apply document information settings
(or document summary information) automatically and uniformly across
all generated documents.
In order to configure the document summary applied to all generated
documents click on 'Summary'.
In the Summary dialog box you can enter document information such
as the author's name, keywords, title etc. If you would like to
preserve the original information, leave the field blank.
PDF PageMaster was designed from ground up to run as a batch process
or as a server component. Although GUI application offers some batch
capabilities PageMaster command- line application
and PageMaster library are better suited
to run in unattended mode.
In order to process a whole directory, specify a wildcard (*.pdf)
as the source document.
If you would like to process all subfolders as well, make sure
that 'Recurse into subdirectories' is checked.
